Green Jobs in the West of England

West of England Careers Hub and Careerpilot Green Jobs Project

Careerpilot is working with the West of England Careers Hub to engage schools and students in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, to understand more about regional green job opportunities and pathways into them. 

Attend one of our 30 minute CPD webinars and we will email you download links to access all of our green jobs resources to use across your school/college or in your career guidance practice, and you will be on your way to getting a Green Careers Champion Award.

1. Attend a 30 minute webinar - Introducing Green Jobs 

  • Wednesday 17th July 3.30-4pm

2. Access new Green Jobs resources 

On attending a CPD webinar, we will email you download links to access the following resources to use with your students to raise awareness of 60 green jobs and the pathways into them.

  • Green Hot Jobs posters and short classroom activities (suitable for tutor time)
  • 3 x 20 minute Green Jobs lessons for KS4 (with limited need for IT access)
  • 50 minute Green Jobs lesson for KS4 (requires IT access)
  • 50 minute Green Jobs lesson for KS5 - Year 12 and Level 3 College (requires IT access)
  • Parent pack with copy and images to use in your communications with parents to raise awareness of green jobs and pathways

3. Work towards the Green Careers Champion Award

On demonstrating you have met the criteria below, you will receive a Green Careers Champion certificate and your status will be celebrated by both Careerpilot and the West of England Careers Hub. 

Mainstream schools and colleges:

  1. Attend a Green Jobs webinar using the links above.
  2. Complete the post-webinar survey and request access to all the Green Jobs resources.
  3. Deliver the green jobs lesson and quiz to at least 30 students.
  4. School informs parents about the green agenda.

SEND or ALP Schools:

  1. Attend a Green Jobs webinar using the links above.
  2. Complete the post-webinar survey and request access to all the Green Jobs resources.
  3. Students show knowledge of the green agenda.
  4. School informs parents about the green agenda.

Career advisers:

  1. Attend a Green Jobs webinar using the links above.
  2. Be aware of the West of England green jobs project and the activities school are using to engage with this agenda.
  3. Know where green information and LMI data can be accessed on Careerpilot.
  4. Access and use the green jobs information through your career guidance practice.

Evaluation of the 22-23 Green Jobs project showed:

  • Very positive feedback from schools attending the webinars and workshops delivered by Careerpilot, with school staff surveyed saying they intend to use the green job resources to support up to 9800 students in their schools or colleges in the coming academic year;
  • 100% of staff surveyed say they felt more confident to teach students about the green agenda and green job opportunities in the West of England area as a result of attending a Careerpilot webinar or workshop and having access to the resources.
  • 91% of students completing the Green Jobs knowledge quiz after the Green Jobs lesson were able to identify what is a green job and know more about them, with many students interested in working in specific green jobs, including Farmer, Architect, Electrician and Ecologist.
  • 65% of students were able to list the five green priority industry sectors in the West of England with many students interested in working in these sectors. There has been a 9% increase in visits to the information on the 50 green jobs on Careerpilot this year compared to last, with many of the green job profiles seeing a significant increase (over 50% increase) in profile visits this year, including Beekeeper, Hydrologist, wind Turbine Technician and Forestry Worker.
