Free encounters with universities - Gatsby Benchmark 7

University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol

UWE Bristol organises a number of exciting activities, events and awards designed to help raise students' aspirations, attainment and awareness of Higher Education. Whether your students are exploring their options for after school or college, considering university study or just want to find out more about a subject, we're here to help.

Heading Higher Passport Plus

Heading Higher Passport Plus (HHP) is a widening participation programme designed to inspire Key Stage 5 students and support progression to Higher Education. It helps students to make confident and realistic choices about their next steps, explore their motivations to study at university and take advantage of the activities and support offered at school/college and UWE Bristol. Eligible HHP Plus applicants to UWE Bristol can also earn additional UCAS tariff points.

For further information, including eligibility criteria, please see here.

BoxED

BoxED is a unique collection of free, engaging, hands-on learning activities designed for students in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. All are curriculum linked and designed in collaboration with our Academic and Education Advisors at UWE Bristol. Activities are delivered by trained staff and current UWE Bristol students who will work to get your students thinking about their classroom learning in a real-life situation, connecting with learning and research at our university.

For more on the range of sessions on offer, please see here.

Open days

The best way for your students to know if UWE Bristol is for them is to visit us. But right now, that’s not possible. So while physical events can’t happen, we have opened our doors digitally.

Click here for everything you need from these events from course talks with our lecturers, helpful information from key University services, 360° tours of our facilities and accommodation and much more. Discover why UWE Bristol isn’t just another university.

Free online resources for students

We are now also providing a wide range of online resources to support prospective students at all levels of education and their families, as well as teachers and advisers in schools and colleges. Many of these resources have been adapted from events and activities we usually deliver on campus or in schools in colleges.

To view our suite of resources, please see the purple section on this page

Workshops and presentations

We offer a range of informative and interactive talks and workshops to help students explore Higher Education and its benefits, learn about student life and how to make an informed and successful application to HE. These sessions are led by UWE Bristol staff and student ambassadors and can be tailored to fit your requirements (including delivery online or onsite in school or college, depending on whichever format is most suitable at that time).

For full details of our offer, please see here.

Campus visits and taster days

We provide a number of exciting opportunities for your Key Stage 4 and 5 students to visit us on our Frenchay campus and learn more about Higher Education and life at university. These visits can be tailored to ensure they meet your needs and desired student learning outcomes. Typically, they can include the opportunity to meet current students, a tour of the campus and a selection of university-related and subject specific workshops.

For further information, please see here.

Exhibitions and fairs

We attend many Higher Education and careers fairs organised by schools and colleges throughout the academic year. These are a great opportunity for your students to talk online or face-to-face with UWE Bristol students, meet university staff and have any specific questions answered. Students can also find out more about the courses we offer and student experience at UWE Bristol.

If you would like us to attend a careers or Higher Education event either virtually or at your school or college please visit here to register your interest. Attendance is subject to the availability of staff, so please contact us as early as possible to book.

Children’s University

Children’s University is an international critically acclaimed programme, funded and delivered locally by UWE Bristol through the Bristol and South Gloucestershire Children's University. The programme encourages all children aged 5 to 14 years to try new experiences, develop new interests and acquire new skills. This is done through participation in innovative and creative learning activities outside of the school day. These learning activities are designed to raise aspiration, encourage motivation, introduce new life experiences, develop personal skills and progress learning.
