What are the top jobs of the future?
The world is changing and so too are the jobs and careers that are available for young people. With the advent of new technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning and the Metaverse, many traditional jobs roles are becoming obsolete. It is crucial, therefore that students research their options with an idea of the type of role that they might be suited to in the future.
In 2022 the Office for National Statistics predicted that, by 2030, there will be a need for an additional two million jobs in health and social care, as well as an extra one million jobs in construction. There will also be a demand for 800,000 new jobs in education, and 600,000 new jobs in professional and scientific services. Alongside this there is already huge demand for Technical jobs which underpin the infrastructure of the above industries and others.
The Future of Work Guide produced by the National Careers Week campaign in 2022 focuses on the changing nature of work and what is thought to be the fourth industrial revolution. The guide states that jobs of the future are increasingly going to be impacted by the ongoing automation of traditional manufacturing and industrial practices, using modern smart technology including artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, biotechnology, the Internet of Things (IoT), nanotechnology, quantum computing, robotics, 5G wireless technology and 3D printing.
Green Jobs
There are already an increasing number of Green jobs which are roles that contribute to preserving or restoring the environment and our planet. You could be working in a traditional sector such as manufacturing or construction, or in a new, emerging green industry such as renewable energy and energy efficiency. The sorts of jobs are very varied and include countryside ranger apprenticeships, smart energy experts, to solar panel installers. Recycling operatives and wind turbine technicians to electric vehicle engineers, data analyst and farm managers. The green job you take will depend on your interests, skills, experience and qualifications.

The Space Sector
Space is one of the fastest growing sectors of the UK economy, supporting jobs for some 117,000 people. Careers in space cover everything from building spacecraft and designing satellites, to coordinating disaster relief and forecasting future climate. The space industry employs engineers and scientists, accountants, lawyers and communicators. There are jobs in the public and private sectors, in universities, major multinational companies and small enterprises.
