Plymouth College of Art
Plymouth College of Art is one of the last independent specialist art colleges in the UK, and has a history dating back to 1856. It offers a wide variety of post-16, Foundation Degree, Degree and Masters courses in art, design and media. Industry-standard facilities include a specialist hot glass and ceramics workshop, dedicated virtual reality studio and cutting edge film equipment.
The College is located in the heart of Plymouth’s city centre and offers two kinds of undergraduate higher education programme - a three-year BA Honours or a two-year Foundation Degree with the option of a third ‘top-up’ year to convert a Foundation Degree into a BA Honours Degree.
There is also a range of further education courses including BTEC Extended Diploma and the pre-degree Foundation Diploma in Art & Design. All of the courses place a high value on ‘hands-on’ making and can be studied on a full or part-time basis. There is also an extensive range of evening short courses and masterclasses, which students can take advantage of in addition to their main course.
The College has many links with local organisations ensuring that students are kept up to date with new developments within the art, design and media industries. The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art often hosts high profile exhibitions and also provides a space for students to exhibit their work.
